Course Overview
This course contains three levels, Beginner, Intermediate and Expert. As you progress through the course, you will learn the basics of SOP authoring through to how to set up projects to embed SOPs in your department or speciality. The course will also equip you with different ways of breaking down complex or persistent problems such that you can create solutions with measurable impact.
Beginner
You will be introduced to the basics of SOP building and our SOPHIA platform through the following modules;
- Introduction to SOPs
- Introduction to SOPHIA & Digitisation
Intermediate
You will learn how to further enhance your SOPs through visual aids and additional resources, and how SOPHIA can be used to more efficiently implement new technology in your organisation, through;
- Enhanced SOP Building
- SOPHIA and Implementing Technology
Expert
The course will explore the final topics needed to enhance SOPs and embed sustainable change through;
- Setting Up a SOP Project
- Benchmarking and Measuring Impact
Key Features of SOPHIA
SOPHIA is our flagship platform designed to hold a library of digital, optimised SOPs, checklists and policies. With full auditing capabilities, a smooth user interface, unlimited users and many more features, clients are able to implement SOPHIA using a bespoke roll-out plan to target specific teams or opportunities within the organisation.
FAQs
Policies tend to offer quite general guidance based on core principles. As such, they are open to individual interpretation and may not help someone know exactly what to do in a given moment. By contrast, SOPs are intended to walk someone step by step through exactly the actions that are required to complete a task or process as effectively as possible. SOPs may be supported by screenshots, process maps, or any other documents that can best support the person charged with the action.
Each module will consist of a mixture of video lessons, topic summaries, quizzes and case studies. Where relevant, each lesson will provide a structured opportunity to reflect upon how the topic you have covered could assist you in the challenges that you are facing in your role, and how SOPs might help to address them.
During the exercises, we encourage you to pause the video and spend a few minutes thinking about how the topic of the lesson applies to your work.
The SOP Academy distils our collective years of SOP building into the essentials that you need to author and implement SOPs as quickly and effectively as possible. Whilst the course is designed for everybody to progress at their own pace, we estimate that each level can be completed in approx. 3 hours.

Our support team consists of Lean Six Sigma-certified professionals with a wide range of experience across various care delivery settings. Having supported the co-creation of 500+ SOPs across Mental Health, Primary Care, Hospitals and Community Care, our team is skilled in analysing a process and helping new users get comfortable with SOPHIA and confident in SOP authoring.
SOPHIA and the SOP Academy were devised by Carradale Futures in partnership with our clients. Starting off in primary care, we’ve learnt how to navigate the healthcare climate and unpack key issues for both staff members and the patients seeking care. After building up our SOP expertise and tight-knit relationships with clients in GP practices and PCNs, we expanded to greater-scale organisations such as entire ICSs, Mental Health Trusts, Hospitals and Integrated Health Services, both in the UK and internationally. In 2020, our engagement with both care leaders and those delivering care on the front line led us to develop SOPHIA, a platform that would enable us to deliver self-sustaining high-impact change to staff and patients.
